Work!

I never thought I'd get an entry in today. My phone has been beeping all night! Loads of things going on - it feels like that anyway!

Had my first day at work. If you can call it that! Well we waited til 10am before we were taken to our stations! 8 of us started today and we were put amongst other Manpower workers. (Temps!) All working for the CSA but employed by Manpower. Anyway, they had no desks for us and we couldnt log on to the system. So we each sat with someone all day and watched them work. Well 'work' in the sense that they were supposed to be working but they didnt really do much - they all chatted to us all day! The line manage never even said anything. Now I have been out of the rat race for 16 years now and is this what it has come to!! Crikey when I worked in an office all them years ago you wouldnt say boo to a goose, you kept your head down and when the boss came in, you at least looked busy even if you wasnt!! CRikey am I getting old!!!!!

Anyway, the work itself is mind numbingly boring!! It's just making phones calls all day long and changing stuff on the data base! So should be easy when we eventually get a computer! We didnt get any door passes, or car park passes! So I have to park out on the road tomorrow! hmmph.#

Anyway, to top it all my poor Joe got really poorly tonight. He has a sore throat and a sky high temperature!! I can't believe it! I can't miss my second day at work!!! Anyway, luckily my friend is going to pop in on him at lunchtime. As John is out all day! Only day two and my baby needs me - how can I work fulltime? He is 13 I know but still my baby and poorly! I really dont want to leave him tomorrow. I was considering Sam staying home from school to look after him but I cant do that! grrrrrrrrrrrrr its horrible!!!

Hugs to my Stuart coz he needs them too.

Your son will be fine at home while you work even though he's sick. I hope he gets better soon!

I hope your Joe is better soon. Hopefully a little rest will do the trick. Glad you have someone to check on him. You could probably call him too. Hope you get on well at the new job. Not all places are like that. Some are still more conservative.

Hi Laine!

I responded to a comment you left in my blog a few posts back. I left it in my blog in the comment section where you commented, b/c I thought others might want to see it too. In it I asked you some questions back, LOL. do you think you could go back and answer, because I am really curious at the answers. I have never heard of a prawn sandwich. I know pretty daft of me, probably, LOL. Here's the URL to my blog post, just put it in your browser and hit enter! Thanks for answering!: http://tinyurl.com/7ejqkq

Anyway, about your day, that's interesting. Just to give you another perspective, I am about your age now also. I don't understand some things now either! But I'll tell you what, I have met the finest young people in the world as of late! Anyway, I don't mean to disagree with you. I guess it's just a different culture now. I don't know if it's better or worse, just different.

But I really wanted to talk to you about Manpower. I worked for them in my twenties. It was all the work I could get. I was one of those temps, LOL. I chose to do it. One of the reasons is because I hoped a company would pick me up. Anyway, I sympathize with the temps. We were given absolutely NO training, by either our company, or the company that hired us, when we went to the job. We were given a very complicated task when we got to our employment destination. If I remember correctly, it was of the nature of accounting assisting. You see, I just didn't know what to do. It was mega frustrating. I didn't want to play around. I just didn't know what to do. I kept to myself, and sat quietly, but the boss became furious when she came around seeing me do nothing. I would put my head down, as I didn't know what to do. I was allowed to ask no questions. The established workers resented us (I have no idea why) and glared at us and made rude, nasty comments at us at times. I am not kidding. I am not sure why. Perhaps they were feeling insecure and that there jobs were being threatened by someone younger. Who knows.

I also assume these established workers assumed we had been trained somewhere, because they would call us lazy, because we were not working -- although it was a horrible situation, as we had no clue how. We were merely ushered to a seat and given some forms and told to get to work basically. I can't remember, perhaps we were taught a few basics, but there were many unusual exceptions in these accounting problems than what we had been taught, and we just were not equipt to work on them. We were not taught proper procedure to come up with half to three quarters, perhaps of the correct answers to complete the forms. And I don't guess. Some girls did though, and were working along. Well, I've got integrity. I don't guess! So I sat that, doing nothing. Didn't chat, just did nothing.

I'm hoping those girls were sitting next to you all so that you could help them! And by the way, what were they doing there anyway, if you didn't have anything to do? That's poor management on the manager's part! She was wasting money and you all's time! Good grief! Unless she was training them for back up in the future if some of you all got sick. I hope you trained the cahtterboxes well, LOL.

Anyway, I hope you go over and answer my question I left in my blog for you. sorry this is so long. :)
